A Study on Humane Management from the Perspective of Ancient Wisdom

The business world, managed solely through a profit-oriented perspective, has multidimensional negative consequences. Systems claimed to exist for people fail to serve the “human being”; on the contrary, they turn people into objects that serve the system. This article aims to propose a management approach centered on human freedom and well-being. Ancient wisdom and the accumulated knowledge of management were used to identify the principles and values underpinning the approach. First, the study addresses the meaning of the human being from the perspective of ancient wisdom, humanity’s place in the order of existence, its purpose, and its ideals. Second, it examines the purpose of humane management and discusses the principles underlying the model: human dignity, human well-being, order and interdependence, justice and compassion, trusteeship and merit, belief in continuity, and accountability. It then explores how these principles and values relate to and guide the elements of a business. Based on a conceptual approach grounded in the literature, the study concludes that an entrepreneur with a transpersonal mission plays a crucial role in putting these principles and values into practice within the organization. Its contribution is a framework that connects elements usually treated as separate fields through the perspective of human freedom and well-being. The article concludes with an overall assessment and recommendations for future research.
